da music

eugene is back for an extra post! and their brain is sludge. but something exciting has happened! though, how good is it really...

nintendo recently announced they are working on (and released) a music app, which will have music from their games and consoles. i got it, since i have an online account, why not check it out?

and it's... honestly, really great. the sound quality is amazing, and older songs have that sorta... fuzzy? sound to them? it's sorta cool. you can also download the songs to listen offline. and you can extend them up to an hour, i think. they even have premade playlists for studying and other moods. and, like i mentioned, they even have songs from consoles?!?! like, that's crazy to me. but i appreciate it.

at the same time, i have a feeling this is probably just to bank on nostalgia. and, of course, considering how they are when it comes to copyright... it won't be good for people who just wanted to share music from games they love. those spaces are genuine time capsules, filled with fans chatting about the game and memories. if they use this to take all the music on youtube, then it just makes their stuff even more exclusive and shows their greed further. they bar people from the partaking in remembrance and simple enjoyment of music they like, just for a buck. it's not about the art of the game or all that went into it, but the money to be made from affection…

not to mention, there's no credits for the original composers? that's just the rotten cherry on top, isn't it.

i suppose we'll see.
