a short post today.
do you believe in love at first sight?
i don't, not really. attraction or interest at first sight, i can believe, but not love. even though the definition would state otherwise, i think love is a commitment or promise rather than just an emotion. and i don't think that can really be achieved unless you really know someone, which can't happen instantaneously. it takes time, patience, sometimes effort and a lot of change. melding from separate people into one cohabiting unit never comes with a promise of ease. (and of course, i don't mean that they shouldn't be their own people anymore-- i mean that due to how closely their lives would intertwine, they would essentially be one. function as a well-oiled machine, ideally. or maybe i'm being too particular about it.)
this goes for friendship too. i could look at someone (or someone's profile, haha), and immediately think i must know you! but that's just curiosity. i could never really predict whether or not i'll get along with someone from first glance. their personality, deep dreams and fears, the ways they see the world. every scenario that would reveal such would not happen in the span of seconds, i think.
but that's just me. how about you?
along a similar line, i'm not very fatalistic either. i think extraordinary things can happen in the name of chance-- extraordinary opportunities, really, but they must align with our actions and we have to take the necessary ones at times. i don't really have evidence for this, though. i just like to think we do have free will. having our own personal evolution in our hands can be a wonderful thing, after all. (heavy emphasis on can.)

i don't really believe in it either. i agree with your point about being physically attracted to someone at first sight, but i feel like you have to know the person to say that you love them. love takes effort, so i don't necessarily see it as something that can happen just from looking at someone for the first time. and yes, the same can definitely be said about friendships!! some people just have a certain energy that attracts us, but i don't think you can love someone until you know them.
eep, exactly!!! for the most part, love at first sight is only falling in love with the idea of a person... not actually the person themself.
