i forgot to mention the other day; i've been thinking of possibly moving the murasaki diaries to another place.
do i know where? no, not quite. i tried moving it all to neocities last year, but that would've quite literally taken forever, having to relink things and rebuild it all from scratch. i have over 500 posts and admittedly lower patience than i'd like... ㅠㅠ i've thought about wordpress, but wordpress is honestly a bit of a pain (and really corporate in terms of style...). and iirc, it's not free. tumblr's a no-go because of formatting alone.
i might look into self-hosting. there's a few sites that allow for self-hosting other than neocities and nekoweb that are a little more diy, but still supportive and easy. of course paying for a domain would be the hard part, but perhaps i could just use a subdomain for now. it's what i'm used to, anyway.
i could try a standard static site and use iframes, but iframes are sorta totally garbage. they're really heavy on your computer (slow, lots of data, mess up indexing), even though many consider it easy to use.
as for why i want to move, i'm a bit concerned about two things: google, and google's relationship to ai.
part of me is somewhat concerned about just how much google wants to continue blogger. all companies are focused on money, that's a given. but given how much (or little, i should say) blogger has been updated over the years, how long will google keep it active?
and then, well, ai. with google being google, how can i be confident they're not just scraping my words for their bot? i took the robots.txt file from nekoweb, but that's not a complete safeguard. the bot can choose whether or not to honor that request, which... i'm sure there's a perfectly valid safety reason behind that from decades ago, but it sounds... eh... to me right now.
we'll see what happens.
in other blogger-related news, i found this site that converted all the old classic templates to second generation blogger standards (so you can add widgets and use the theme editor rather than only the html editor). i haven't tried editing it myself yet in the editor to see how customizable they are, but here they are if you wanna take a look.

moving your blog does sound like a smart move. honestly, you can never be too cautious these days. all these internet applications are changing by the day as so many companies add in ai assistants and whatnot.
this post definitely got me thinking about my blog, too.. but i don't know where i would move either. i guess the only way to be safe is to start looking now! hopefully blogger isn't gone by the time a decision is made. and if you find someplace else to blog, lmk and i will follow!! ^_^

i second that. it's crazy that this is even something we have to worry about. if only there was an ai-free search engine with a blogspot alternative that actually worked.... :(
that said, i really really hope blogger stays as is and google doesn't mess with it or shut it down. but thinking about it, so many sites run on blogger (just with custom domains(?)), so surely google wouldn't want to lose that profit, maybe? still, the uncertainty is unsettling.....and the whole ai training thing...... yeah, that's a whole other can of worms....
if you ever manage to relocate somewhere safe, don't leave us hanging!!!!!!! we'll follow the murasaki diaries wherever it goes ㅠㅠ

true... it's so weird how everything suddenly changed in favor of ai, like why are we suddenly acting like we can't live without it even though it's only been 2-3 years...

I WISHHHHHHH, and in gen i sorta wish we had more browsers. it's a little surprising how limited this... market? industry? idk the exact word, but. you'd expect there to be more competition for something so important, i feel.
that's true! i'm sure there's a lot of spaces with custom domains. but i'm not sure if it's enough to support the entire network in comparison with how many free / abandoned / spam sites there are as well, due to blogger being completely free. many cans of worms, indeed...
