rock...ing chair?

iirc, some time ago i brought up the possibility of rock-inspired magical boys. i've been thinking about it for a while, and i think i have some foundations down? so, let's get into it~ 

i don't have a name for the entire squad yet, but there's definitely at least six members. in contrast to most magical color palettes that are cohesive through bright colors and white accents / bases, i think their color palette would have jewel tones and black accents / bases. also a lot of silver! though, if they have like. a mega evolution to fight against tougher monsters as the series progresses, i think their outfits would become white.

as for the outfits themselves, i think they'd be formed around a simple two-piece: a long dress jacket, and black jeans. accessories n details change with each member, of course~

most magical teams are made up of middle school / high school students, but i think it might be better if this were a group of college students? at the very minimum hs seniors, when work is winding down after applying for college and everything. it always nags at me how much time kids have in these fantasy / sci-fi shows, like i know that's not possible unless u're time traveling... or maybe it is! eh.

i digress. i think they'd be a small band on their own, doing a few shows here and there on the weekends when they have time. the big bad is someone who is absolutely miserable and wants all to conform. to what? i'm not sure yet. but in any case, conformity and suppression of the self isn't a good thing to spread around. so then we get some themes of self-acceptance n being urself!!!!!!!!!!!!!! eep. i think it would also be interesting to explore how mainstream culture sort of vilifies rock at times, and how that contrasts with their mission to spread confidence n love. maybe some episodes in which the members have disagreements with their family or other authoritative figures.

as for how they got their powers... i think it would be gradual, or at the very least they hide it from each other until they literally can't anymore and then they're like "wait. you got this too?" it would probably come to them in the form of something deeply important to their instrument. while this could make it difficult to transform at all times, i think there could be some workarounds they could find in order to keep it on them.

• vocalist: definitely the main character, eep. their main color is ruby red, deeply loving and passionate. i think their transformation outfit would have some sort of standout detail on their shoulders to show their responsibility, like a pauldron! or maybe a cord? or both pauldron and cord. their weapon is their voice, which can have a hypnotic effect (controls emotions). other than that, their microphone doubles as a flail and lasso. perhaps some fire powers? i think hypnosis makes them a little op, though. definitely popular kid material if in hs. 
• bassist: their main color is sapphire blue. they have a calming and even presence. their transformation outfit has animal print accents, revealing their deeply-hidden zeal. since bass covers all the deepest tones, i feel that they'd have powers related to darkness, invisibility, or optical illusions, and the bass guitar doubles as a staff that can create shields. if in hs, student council president material, though i don't think they'd be interested in it.
• drummer: their color is definitely yellow! bright energy, totally infectious smiles. you can't fall asleep around them, they're like a natural caffeine boost. their transformation outfit would have scarves, flags, or tassels. something to fly around as they move, emphasizing their motion. they'd have earth-related powers, able to move the ground or create fissures. their tendency to get carried away could make it a massive liability, though. their drumsticks double as daggers / nunchucks that create shockwaves with every impact.
• guitarists: there are two! one's color is orange, the other is green. orange has a mischievous and cunning energy, while green is the parent of the group. their transformation outfits would have plaid accents with their colors. i feel that green would also have some lace in their outfit somehow, to show their slightly more delicate nature. they work together well, and in combat, their guitars have sharp edges to double as swords / axes. orange has electricity-related powers, green has wind-related powers. as a band, one of them would be the lead guitarist while the other keeps the main melody constant alongside the bassist. not sure who does what, though...
• keyboardist: purple! definitely purple. they're shy and somewhat anxious. the smartest / nerdiest in the group, too. their transformation outfit has cool wired headphones and some geometrical elements patterned on the fabric of their jacket. in combat, i think they'd be stationed somewhere as if they have a long-range weapon. perhaps as they play notes, projectiles are fired? they could create spikes in the battlefield / structures to hide behind, etc as well. ice / glass / crystal powers.

i like to think the bad guys take possession of their peers' insecurities, and their defeat helps their peer feel better about themselves again. maybe as the series ends, their enemy realizes the members' own insecurities, and they have to fight alternate versions of themselves. this ultimately brings them closer, both with each other and to their realization of paragons of self-love. eep!

anyway, uh. that's all i have right now. i might toss it around in my brain whenever i'm bored. hope u like it, ehehe~

agh, that reminds me. i saw a devastatingly awesome person today. they wore a spock shirt, and had a black horned septum piercing, and wore black converse n AAAAAAAAA they were literally so cool... i wanted to compliment them on their outfit, but they were with their family and i was with my mom so it would've been super awkward... + i did NOT look my best GGGHGHGHGHHGHGHHHHHH oh well...
