delicious realism

i hung out with my sister-in-law again today! :)

we didn't do much, mostly hung out at her place n chilled. she showed me some of the web work she does, which was a little complicated for me to understand but still super cool. i'm thinking of using some of the things she showed me in the music magazine's website, though it might take a while before i'm actually knowledgeable enough to implement it, if that makes sense.

after that, we went out to lunch at a japanese place in a nearby shopping street; i got chicken katsu, which was really good :3. we also went to this small bakery by their place, which makes (amongst other things) hyperrealistic desserts that look like fruit. she's not super into sweets, but she got a mango (for my mom) and a raspberry (for me); i'm so grateful ㅠㅠ

then, we went back to her place n worked on a puzzle and watched food shows. so, not super eventful, but i was glad to get out of my home and chill with another person. (and something seemed wrong with my speaking module lolz? i wanted to actually chat n stuff, but my brain kept drawing blanks. i felt bad about it.)

i wonder; how do you guys feel about specialized desserts? super fancy ones. the main example i'm thinking of are the hyperrealistic fruit desserts, but like. i dunno. those foods you see in high-end places or something, where there's a million different flavors synthesized in one bite (literally, because the plates are so small)...

personally, i like specialized desserts when they're like. a local thing? not expensive or high-end, just a place that likes to put their own spin on things. especially when it takes cues (techniques, flavors) from multiple cultures!!! i love it so much. lately in my area, there's been a lot of asian-influenced dessert places popping up, which has been absolute heaven for me. but of course, we could always use more from anyone and any group.

but, as i said before. expensive dessert and food places aren't really my thing. they make me feel weird for some reason. it's like... food can be an art. and like any other art practice, it can be high-end and lavish. but is high-end and lavish always and/or really good? especially something like food, which is core to our physical existence. i don't know. i don't like the idea and presence of opulence in general. i'm just rambling at this point.

goodnight~

that sounds like a really cozy day :]. the web stuff totally makes sense too; even if it feels complicated now, just seeing how someone else approaches it plants ideas. esp for a music magazine site, vibes and structure come first, the tech brain usually catches up later (slowly but surely ㅠㅠ).

on the dessert thing, i’m with you. hyperrealistic or super fancy desserts are cool to look at, but they don’t always feel good to eat. when it’s local or mixing cultures and techniques, it feels more alive, like someone actually wanted to share a flavor instead of flexing skills >:D.

and yeah… high-end food can feel weird. food can be art, sure, but when it leans too hard into opulence, it forgets it’s meant to be eaten and enjoyed. i’ll always pick thoughtful, down-to-earth creativity over tiny plates and big prices ^^;

night night eugene~

aww, it sounds like u guys had a nice time together. i'm sure the music magazine will look even better with the new stuff implemented. i hope u have fun with that!

as for specialized desserts, i agree with u. they're nice to look at, but that's about it.. u don't really get much for what ur paying, and these desserts may not taste well. i would definitely prefer a local dessert, too.

i hope u had a good night, eugene~!!

it was! :3 n yesssss, i just hope the tech brain catches up soon lolz.

that's v true! the desserts were pretty good, though i do wish there was more cake or some sort of filling other than whipped cream. perhaps one day we can have both an explosion of thoughtful and highly skilled desserts.

I LOVE THE WAY YOU PHRASED THAT OMG, "it forgets it's meant to be eaten and enjoyed." it made me think of this other quote i found, in which when making food, one should consider how it makes the recipient healthy and/or happy. i love those sorts of outlooks on food.

thank u nara!!!! i hope so too :D (i also hope someone more skilled than me can come along into the team at some point to help bcuz... kelp ㅠㅠ)

that's true. i guess the real appeal of them sometimes (at least when it comes to super high-end stuff) is the clout that being able to afford it gives a person :/ local desserts are so awesome :3

i did!!! i hope the same for you~
