hip & horrific

lately i've been watching a lot of fashion shows and runways with my mom. i think i mentioned it before, but, she used to study fashion. i'm always interested in what she has to say about the themes and pieces, especially how trends cycle (she studied fashion in the 80s/90s, and has literal stacks of boxes full of high fashion magazines).

anyway. speaking of fashion, let's chat about monster high. 

i was really interested in dolls growing up, but i didn't get new ones, yk? my sister got a lot when she was younger, and so i inherited all of them and their clothes, stuff like that. and i never really want new ones, iirc, because of it. 

that being said! i was always interested in monster high dolls. i thought they were the pretties dolls i had ever seen. they each had such vibrant color palettes ad the coolest clothing. not to mention, i loved monsters. i loved reading about monsters, and while i liked my human-esque dolls, i was always wondering what monster girls (i used to come up with female characters in my head more often then) would look like.

i only have one monster high doll right now though, catty noir! i got her as a gift, and i can't tell you how in awe i was. the clothes were so beautiful, she had bright pink hair, bright pink eyes!!! ball joints that had greater ranges of movement!!! the rawr hand!!! the diary!!! ugh. i loved all of it.

honestly, this franchise is another thing i thought would be forever as a kid. i mean, of course they're still around today, but it doesn't have that scary coolness. it doesn't have that edge, especially in terms of the fashion. what early/mid-2010s nostalgia~

anyway. i don't know why i've suddenly begun thinking about monster high so much. i think it's because halloween's coming up. i think i'm gonna try and be ice bear, but we'll see.
