today was pretty alright. neither of my classes today had a midterm, and we even had a party in the second class! ppl brought food and drinks, and we watched home alone 2. it was nice.
i really miss class parties, you know. we used to have them every year.
other holiday celebrations, too. everyone buzzed with anticipation for the break ahead, and the gifts to come. in elementary school we often hosted a little music festival, with hot cocoa and cookies. and of course middle school and high school has winter concerts for the band and orchestra.
and of course, all of those events took place in the night, when it was pitch-black and freezing. yet there was always something magical about the air as you stepped outside. the way it nipped at your face while echoes of the songs played in your head and your heart warmed with cocoa (that may or may not have burnt your tongue, ehehe).
and in school itself, we had a day of relaxation and fun ahead. oftentimes involving pizza and a movie, sometimes desserts. a lot of people chipped in to bring something, but of course everyone could enjoy it. it was all about enjoying the day and ending the semester on a good note.
i must admit i don't have a lot of memories when it comes to the holidays with my family. most are too old for me to recall. quite a few are not... good. or, they have been tainted by new knowledge. it's a shame, but there's nothing i can do about it.
my siblings are all grown up now, and my parents are always busy with their own outside responsibilities. so i guess i sort of lack a feeling of connection when it comes to the holidays these days. i'm not really upset about it-- rather, i find it heartwarming. it's sort of nice to think about how festive times are always made better with others. sharing and partaking in such activities reminds people that why are more connected, i think. much of the breaking away and division i see is understandable-- some differences cannot be reconciled-- but it's nice to seek out friendship during this time. it's a unique feeling.
anyway. i'm going to take a little nap. then i'll study a little bit tonight for my hardest midterm, and work on my bestie westie's gift. i finally figured it out. and thankfully, it shouldn't take too long~
