listened to the t-ara cd the other night. i fear (in a positive way)... many of the sotds for the next few days onwards shall be from that album (save for this one, lolz)... it's gen such a good n fun album.
i guess, perhaps, i'll break it down a bit here? the album, i mean. i don't think you can see me dance, and even if you could, it wouldn't be very entertaining...
i don't think i've ever done an album review before, uhhhh... ok!
it's got 14 songs; admittedly i'm only super into 10 out of such, but i do get the appeal of the other songs. so, i'm gonna cover those ten. (vaguely circus-like sounds, strong ballads, and jazz(? iirc) aren't entirely my vibe, but they do it well so obvi i'm not gonna rag on it or anything.)
the intro, one & one is a perfect start to what's overall a punchy electro-pop collection. it's got a catchy melody from the first second, metallic sounds and voices that scratch deep into your brain. it's so satisfying, a good buildup to the next couple of songs. originally i was gonna listen to the cd while chilling and reading, but this song told me, like. absolutely not!!!!!! this is a record in which i'm gonna get up and dance.
next up are cheoeum cheoreom and bo peep bo peep, which need no introduction. they're the hits of this album, and it's definitely understandable why!!! they have a wavy and bouncy feel respectively, making moving to them easy and effortless. the former has a bit of a softer sound due to the whispery vocals, while the latter has a sharper sound. if u've ever seen the mv / choreo, then that notion gets stuck in ur head easier, lolz.
i will say, however, that those two most popular songs feel the simplest of the entire album in terms of sound. which isn't a bad thing at all, just an observation of how active my mind is between the songs.
tic tic toc has a particular chord progression that's very reminiscent of the era. somewhat reminds me of pandora by kara and orange caramel in gen? europop-ish, if that's the right term. it's very mysterious. for some reason i'm getting the particular word, "ascension"? or, ascent. or the opposite, descent. a spiral. it doesn't make sense in my head, but it does in my gut, so i'm going with it.
bye bye is so fun and catchy, like all the other songs of course~ it has the brightest sound out of all the songs i'm covering, in my opinion. i'm also getting a lot of visuals from this one. i see the color white in my mind, but also some vaguely very light blues and greys. i imagine old malls, frilly and sparkly clothing, especially pearls!!! strong black eyeliner and mascara, like in old anime dress-up games.
falling u is a beautiful r&b tune, so smooth and clean, with a slight technological touch like many r&b ballads of the era. i feel like the music video would have a lot of scenes of daily life, with so many meet-cutes and ~coincidental~ approaches. showing how time seems to slow down when falling in love, how the person becomes the light of your life. how everything's beginning to fall into place when you see them over and over again, and good things keep happening. on cloud nine, perilously... ugh! sometimes i miss the feeling, sometimes i don't. lolzzzzz.
up next i have the two versions of ttl, or time to love. the first is slower and sweeter, more tragic. the second is a little more upbeat, better suited for late nights and partying. both of them are still heavy with the synth and have a more contemporary sound, easy to move with in both versions. maybe one's more suited to singing out your feels with friends, and the other's more suited to letting it all go in a crowd. does that make sense?
good person is a ballad, but with a much more grounded / natural, and soulful sound. the instrumentals are comprised of traditional piano, strings, and guitar. it's the song you know everyone would want to sing in karaoke when things are going bad. a bittersweet song, a breakup that breeds feelings of vengeance. it's overflowing with determination and emotion. i adore it deeply. i get a lot of soft greens when i listen to it, like watercolor paintings of leaves and stark gray branches.
i don't think i'll every quite get used to the intro of wanna play?, it always jumpscares me, lolz. it's an interesting song to end the album on, but returning to the cooler electro sound does tie everything together. it's a really simple song when it comes to lyrics as well. to be honest, i was sort of hoping the finale would be a little more complex, but it does feel like a farewell, too.
so, yeah! overall, i really enjoyed the song. i'm so happy my library just happens to have it in stock, lolz! definitely will be in my regular rotation.
